Port Blair, June 26: Another scandal of participation of players from other States in the name of A & N Islands had surfaced. Last time it was Senior National Hockey Championship held at Pune and this time it is the Junior National Hockey Championship held at Sonepat, Haryana. Former Players allege that in both these shameful and criminal scandal, the office bearers A & N State Olympic Association and Andaman & Nicobar are involved without any doubt.
The 3rd Hockey India Junior National Hockey Championship-2013 was held in Sonepat, Haryana in June 2013. The Andaman & Nicobar Team was also one of the team to participate. As per the Fixture issued by the Organising Committee of the Championship, the A & N Team was placed in Pool “F” along with Puducherry, Himachal Pradesh and Gujrat. The A & N Team was to play its first match on 8th June against, Pudducherry, on 9th June against Himachal Pradesh and third match on 10th June against Gujrat. In the mean time the act of cheating, fraud and corruption by the A & N Hockey Association by fielding the players of other States in the name of Andaman and Nicobar in the 3rd Hockey India Senior National Hockey Championship-2013 held at Pune was brought to the notice of people of India by a National Daily “Indian Express” and Andaman Sheekha.
Smelling repercussion, the suspected master mind immediately managed to send all the players of Jn. Hockey Team, back home from Sonepat.
The Organizers declared them as “Did Not turn up for the Match”. It is alleged that all the players were from other states. The list of players and officials submitted by the Hockey Andaman & Nicobar for the 3rd Hockey India Junior National Hockey Chapiobship-2013 is still available with the Organiser of the Game at Sonepat and an investigation will reveal the truth. This is not the first time that such illegal activities have taken place. In fact few sports Associations which are the creation of one particular person, are involved in such act of cheating, fraud and illegal activities in the name of sports for the last few years and minting money.
However, Andaman Sheekha tried four times today to contact the Director of Sports for a quote but the Director was not available for an official comment. This is high time for the A & N Administration to get tough in the interest of protecting the interest of youth of these Islands. It will be good for sports in general and development of sports in particular. If this time culprits are not taught a lesson it will be too late to act.
