Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 21: Taking strong exception to the recently published draft Andaman & Nicobar Private University Regulation, 2026, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee in a letter sent to the Secretary (Education), Andaman & Nicobar Administration said that the said Regulation is a prelude to the Government of India’s decision to commercialise higher education in A & N Islands, in the guise of implementation of National Education Policity-2020.
CPI (M) Secretary stated in the letter that the CPI (M) views with serious concern the disaffiliation of the existing seven colleges of these islands from the Pondicherry Central University and establishment of a Deemed- to- be -University and affiliation of these colleges with it, has already caused considerable damage to the higher education in the islands. CPI (M) told the Secretary (Education) that being a small union territory, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands do not require any private university as the Administration is bound to provide free and quality education through a Central University to the students of these islands.
Ayyappan urged the Administration to withdraw the aforesaid draft Regulation immediately.
