Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 21: The State Control Room has issued a weather, fisherman, farmer and port warning for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands based on the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata.
According to the warning, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The weather warning further indicates that similar thunderstorm activity with gusty winds and lightning may continue at one or two places during the subsequent days, with the forecast advising caution over the islands.
Fishermen Advised Not to Venture into Sea
The State Control Room has also issued a fishermen warning for the Andaman & Nicobar coast. Squally weather, with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph, is likely to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts during the period from August 22 to August 25, 2026.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts during the warned period.
The warning also mentions that swell waves in the range of 15.0–17.0 seconds, with wave heights of around 2.0–2.5 metres, are forecast up to 2330 hours on August 22. There is a possibility of surging waves reaching up to 2.5 metres, which may result in unsafe sea conditions.
Farmers Advised to Remain Alert
A farmer warning has also been issued, cautioning that heavy rain (07–11 cm) is likely over the Andaman Islands, along with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, at one or two places.
The authorities have advised residents, fishermen, farmers and other concerned stakeholders to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
The weather warning has been issued by the State Control Room based on the IMD forecast and covers the period from August 22 to August 27, 2026, with the port warning indicating little change in conditions over the subsequent two days.
