Sri Vijaya Puram Aug 20: Hindu Rashtra Shakti has urged the A&N Administration and concerned authorities to undertake one-time semi-permanent patching of potholes in Haddo, Bathu Basti, Garacharma, Mohanpura Bus Stand and surrounding areas ahead of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi and Durga Puja celebrations.
In a representation addressed to the Lieutenant Governor, Member of Parliament, Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman and Assistant Secretary (AR Wing), Rajesh Majumdar, State Vice President, Hindu Rashtra Shakti, highlighted the deteriorating condition of roads in several areas, citing large potholes, uneven surfaces and depressions that pose risks to motorists and pedestrians.
The representation pointed out that Mohanpura Bus Stand is an important transit point for people travelling to different parts of the city and is expected to witness increased movement during the festive season. The road conditions could become particularly challenging with the expected rise in vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the celebrations.
It was further stated that pandal committees will be transporting deity idols for installation, requiring safe and smooth movement of vehicles. Poor road conditions could cause difficulties during transportation and increase the risk of accidents, particularly involving two-wheeler riders, elderly persons and children.
Hindu Rashtra Shakti has therefore requested the authorities to take up the identified roads on priority and carry out one-time semi-permanent pothole patching before the festivals. The organisation said timely repairs would help ensure safer movement of devotees, vehicles and emergency services while reducing the possibility of traffic congestion and accidents during the festive period.
Rajesh Majumdar appealed to the Administration to treat the matter with urgency and take necessary action in the larger public interest.
