
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 18: With a view to strengthening the professional capabilities of Police personnel engaged in security and close protection duties, the Andaman & Nicobar Police, in collaboration with Headquarters Close Protection Force (CPF), National Security Guard (NSG), Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana, has commenced a specialized PSO & Tactical Driving Course at Sri Vijayapuram from 17 August 2026. The two-week training programme is aimed at developing a pool of professionally trained personnel equipped to undertake VVIP security, close protection and tactical driving duties.
A total of 100 Police personnel from various units of the Andaman & Nicobar Police are participating in the training programme, comprising 70 personnel undergoing PSO training and 30 personnel undergoing Tactical Driving training. The participants are being imparted specialized training by a dedicated team from NSG, led by Mr. Sahi Ram, Assistant Commandant, NSG.
The comprehensive training programme includes lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises covering various aspects of VIP security and close protection, including security drills, vehicle control, safe and tactical driving, parking principles and other operational requirements associated with PSO and security duties.
The training assumes particular significance in view of the increasing security responsibilities of the Islands and the frequent visits of VVIPs, including the Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Union Ministers and other senior constitutional and dignitary-level visitors. The specialized training is expected to enhance the professional competence of Police personnel and strengthen the preparedness of the Andaman & Nicobar Police to provide effective, coordinated and high-quality security during VVIP visits and other important engagements.
During the programme, the chief guest Mr. Ravindra Singh Yadav, IPS, DGP, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, interacted with the NSG training team and the participating Police personnel. The DGP expressed his gratitude to the Director General, NSG, and the NSG training team for extending their expertise and support for the specialized programme. He emphasized that such collaborative training initiatives provide Police personnel with exposure to specialized techniques and best practices, thereby enhancing their professional capabilities, operational preparedness and effectiveness in VVIP and close protection duties.
The collaboration with HQ CPF, NSG reflects the commitment of the Andaman & Nicobar Police towards continuous professional skill development, capacity building and adoption of best practices in security management. The training will contribute towards creating a pool of trained personnel capable of effectively meeting the specialized requirements of VVIP security, close protection and tactical driving, thereby further strengthening the security preparedness of the Islands.
The entire training programme has been conceptualized and coordinated by Mrs. Apoorva Gupta, IPS, Commandant, IRBn, and is being conducted under her guidance and supervision.
