Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds at several places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the coming days.
On August 12, heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is very likely at one or two places over the Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms with gusty winds of 50–60 kmph and lightning are also likely at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
On August 13, heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is likely over one or two places in the Nicobar Islands, along with thunderstorms, gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning at one or two places over the islands.
Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning are likely at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on August 14 and 15.
Fishermen Warning
The IMD has issued a warning for the Andaman and Nicobar coast, forecasting squally winds reaching 35–45 kmph and occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts from August 11 to 15.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts during this period.
A Swell Surge Alert has also been issued for the coast of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Swell waves with a period of 17–19 seconds and height of 2.3–2.7 metres are forecast during the period, with the alert extending up to 11:30 p.m. on August 12. The possibility of wave surging has been indicated, and boats and those undertaking recreational activities near the coast have been advised to exercise utmost vigilance and due care.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 50–60 kmph are likely at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on August 12. Heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is also likely over the Nicobar District.
On August 13, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, along with heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm, are likely over the Nicobar Islands.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are also likely at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on August 14 and 15.
The port warning outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change.
