Baratang, August 8: The Chairman of the North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad today visited the family of Shri Ranjit Roy at Vijay Garh-II (Bengali Basthi), Baratang, whose residential house was damaged after a massive tree fell on it during incessant rain on August 6. The Chairman personally inspected the affected house and interacted with the family, assuring them of support and efforts for early relief.
During the visit, the Chairman took stock of the damage caused to the house and discussed the situation with the concerned officials. He also spoke with the Additional District Magistrate, North and Middle Andaman, Shri Krishna Chaitanya, regarding the assistance required by the affected family.
It was informed that the extent of damage to the house would be assessed through the prescribed process, with the Patwari expected to submit the necessary report following an assessment. Based on the official assessment, the matter of compensation and other possible assistance will be taken up with the Administration.
The Chairman said that the affected family is facing considerable hardship, particularly as the weather continues to remain rainy. He assured the family that he would pursue the matter with the Administration and Forest Department so that necessary assistance could be extended at the earliest.
The Chairman was accompanied during the inspection by Zilla Parishad Up-Pramukh Vijay Mandal, former Zilla Parishad Member Paritosh Chowdhury, Ranger Vijay Singh, Forest Ranger Officer, Forester Sabita Narayan and Forest Department staff. Police Constable Santosh was also present during the visit.
The team inspected the spot where the tree had fallen and assessed the condition of the damaged residential structure. The Chairman also appreciated the cooperation and prompt response of the concerned departments in dealing with the incident.
According to the incident report, the tree fell on the residence of 42-year-old Ranjit Roy, son of Gopal Roy, at Vijay Garh-II on August 6 following incessant rainfall. The Baratang Fire Service received information about the incident at around 1:55 p.m. and mobilised a team shortly afterwards. Firefighters reached the spot and undertook cutting and removal of the fallen tree using a chainsaw, ropes, crowbars and other equipment.
The fallen tree was cut into pieces and safely removed without causing further damage to the house. No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident, while the property damage has been estimated at approximately Rs. 40,000.
The Zilla Parishad Chairman said that providing immediate support to the affected family would remain his priority and that he would continue to coordinate with the Administration and Forest Department for necessary assistance and relief.
