Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 06: The State Control Room has issued a weather advisory forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated places across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on Friday (August 7).
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall (07–11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph and lightning are also likely to occur at isolated places.
The advisory further states that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected to persist over the Islands during the following days, with similar weather conditions likely at isolated places.
A fishermen warning remains in force for the Andaman and Nicobar coasts. Squally winds with speeds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coasts till August 10. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
The forecast also includes a swell surge alert for the Andaman and Nicobar coasts. Swell waves with heights ranging between 1.6 and 2.5 metres are expected till the night of August 7, and boat operators have been advised to exercise utmost vigilance due to the possibility of surging waves.
Farmers have also been advised to take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may affect agricultural activities during the forecast period.
The outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change in the prevailing weather conditions. The general public has been urged to remain alert, avoid venturing into vulnerable areas during adverse weather, and follow official advisories issued by the authorities.
