Port Blair, June 23; The concluding function of tailoring, fashion design, embroidery work and inaugural function for food processing organized by UNNATI with the support of NABARD in association with Nilambur Panchayat was held at Nilambur Panchayatghar on 22.06.2013 at 11.30 AM for weaker section of members of the community for their skill development for starting self-employment economic activities. Shri. G. Tarai General Manager, NABARD was the chief guest in the function. Who while inaugurating the function explained the benefit of MEDP to the participants.
He also explained NABARD’s effort in development through credit besides importance of skill development entrepreneurship for establishing any economic activity. He further emphasized to make use of the training programme organized by UNNATI with the support of NABARD by availing loan if they have no security to furnish by forming JLG/SHG with the help and guidance of UNNATI and also advised Manager A&N State Co-operative of Baratang who also present in the function to extend his help and guidance to enable trainee to make use of skill acquired by the trainees to set up economic unit. Certain points raised by participants and Bank Manager were also resolved by him.
He said Baratang being tourist destination the tourist arrival here needs to be utilized and Island specific products may be prepared for its marketability as suggested by President UNNATI. The food processing training identified by UNNATI on coconut and crab for marketing coconut based products and crab pickle can be adopted as profitable venture because of its availability at cheaper rate in Baratang Islands. As regard their demand for computer class at Nilambur with the support of NABARD the Chief Guest asked Pradhan, Nilambur Panchayat to submit their proposal for consideration with number of candidates and other details. He also interacted with participants and community leaders to know greater details of the locality for implementation of various NABARD supported projects and narrated details of project at lengenth. The chief guest after seeing the file containing the work done by the trainees during the training period expressed his happiness about the good work done by the trainer and trainee.
Smti. Sumari Roy, Pradhan Nilambur Panchayat welcomed the chief guest and other participants. She specially thanked NABARD and UNNATI for conducting training programme in remote Island after transporting required infrastructure including resource person from Port Blair. She said the useful training conducted will surely with benefit the trainees in starting self-employment activities by unemployed youth of Baratang Islands if similar support for sanction of loan and marketability of products is arranged for marketing of trainee/ SHG products She demanded allotment of Harbour works canteen at Jetty at and providing space for shop at middle Street are provided to women SHG/ JLG and trainees of Baratang Island. She also demanded training support in computer considering a large number of candidates are interested in computer course. She also pointed out that the transport is the main hurdle for their economic empowerment Shri Roy George and Shri S. Ramanathan also spoke on the occasion and pointed out due to muddy road trainees from other villages cannot reach for training at Nilambur timely particularly during raining season. They demand early action for construction of all earthen road pucca and to conduct similar programme in other villages from where people cannot come to Nilambur to avail training as per schedule and marketing of this prodance.
Shri. C.Mohammed, President UNNATI mentioned that our organization is interested to organize if programme in remote rural area where support of area Pradhan is forthcoming. He said we are conducting various training programme in Baratang only because PRIs in Baratang are extending their support and trainees are genuinely interested to develop their skill for adopting self employment. He further said that UNNATI Staff during the period of training will assist trainees to form JLG so that they could avail loan from Bank timely to start production at commercial scale.
He said training will be conducted at late hours for completion of training schedule on demand in lesser days for which refreshment will be arranged to them. He said minimum required support like sealing machine, pouches, labels etc. will be provided to the food processing trainees freely so that they can start the production work immediately after training Course materials prepared by Unnati after hiring food consultant will also be issued to them for guidance and reference. He specially thanked PRI, APWD, community leaders and other for their active support.

She specially thanked UNNATI for selecting her from Baratang for giving her training in tailoring, fashion design and embroidery works with the Usha International Ltd. which not only enableher to give quality training to the trainees by getting more works of Baratang but also enhanced her income by getting more because of skill up gradation in her works.
