Sri Vijaya Purm, July 19: A large-scale cleanliness drive (Swachhata Abhiyan) was organized by the Block Development Office, CD Block, Little Andaman at the Breakwater Jetty, Hut Bay On 18th July. The participants also created awareness among the public regarding the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, emphasizing the importance of source segregation of waste, responsible disposal of solid waste, reduction of single-use plastics, and active community participation in maintaining a clean, healthy, and pollution-free environment.
The programme was conducted with the objective of promoting environmental conservation, maintaining cleanliness of the coastal area, and creating awareness among the public regarding proper waste management and protection of the marine ecosystem. The cleanliness drive witnessed the active participation of Mr. S. Parmanathan, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Little Andaman, along with officers and officials from various line departments including the Rural Development Department, Panchayati Raj Institutions, and other Government departments.
