Baratang, July 6: Two women were injured after a Tourist SUV overturned during a convoy movement near Middle Strait on Sunday morning, while the other occupants sustained minor injuries. Police rushed to the spot, carried out rescue operations, and shifted all the injured persons to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Baratang, for treatment. A case has been registered against the driver, and further investigation is underway.
According to information learnt by Andaman Sheekha Daily, the accident occurred at around 7:37 am on July 5, about five kilometres before Middle Strait during convoy movement. On receiving information, the In-charge of Middle Strait Jetty Police Post, along with a police team, immediately reached the accident site. They found the SUV overturned in the middle of the road. With the assistance of local people, the police rescued the occupants trapped inside the vehicle, turned the vehicle upright, moved it to the roadside, and regulated the convoy traffic.
As per the FIR, preliminary inquiry revealed that the accident allegedly occurred due to the driver driving the vehicle at high speed, although it is not final report yet. All the injured persons were shifted to PHC Baratang in a government vehicle and a private vehicle for medical treatment. Doctors reportedly found that one of the injured women had sustained a fracture in her left shoulder, while another woman suffered minor facial injuries. The remaining occupants sustained only minor injuries.
Based on the FIR, police have initiated legal action against the driver for allegedly driving the vehicle rashly and negligently. Further investigation into the case is in progress.
