Sri Vijaya Puram, June 28: Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) has been receiving numerous complaints from residents, particularly from Wards No. 6 and 7, regarding the increasing nuisance caused by stray pigs roaming in residential localities, public roads and other public places. The Chairperson and Ward Councillors has also expressed serious concern over the growing stray pig menace and its adverse impact on public health, sanitation and the convenience of the citizens.
In its continuous efforts to ensure a clean, healthy and nuisance-free environment, SVPMC has been conducting regular pig-catching and shifting drives across the municipal area. As part of this initiative, the Council successfully conducted special drives on 25.06.2026 and 27.06.2026, during which 10 and 16 stray pigs, respectively, were caught from Junglighat and Prem Nagar areas and shifted to Brookshabad. Similar enforcement drives will continue on a regular basis in future, as and when required, to safeguard public health and maintain civic hygiene.
Despite repeated efforts and enforcement measures, it has been observed that certain livestock owners, particularly pig owners, continue to allow their animals to roam freely in residential colonies and public places, causing inconvenience to the public and posing serious health and safety concerns.
The Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council once again directs all livestock owners, especially pig owners, not to allow their cattle, including pigs, to stray freely in residential areas, markets, roads or any public place. Strict action, including the imposition of penalties and other legal measures, shall be initiated against defaulting owners in accordance with the applicable provisions of law.
The general public is also requested to extend their cooperation by reporting instances of stray pigs along with the name of the owner (where known), photographs and location details to the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council. Such information will enable the Council to identify the defaulting owners and take appropriate penal action against them.
SVPMC remains firmly committed to providing the citizens of Sri Vijaya Puram with a clean, safe, healthy and nuisance-free environment through sustained enforcement, public participation and responsible ownership of livestock.
