Sri Vijaya Puram, June 28: Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman, Campaign Committee- ANTCC, met the fishermen of Chunnabatta, North Bay who were brutally assaulted by Coast Guard personnel while fishing near East Island.
During the interaction, the affected fishermen narrated the traumatic incident and expressed their deep anguish over the alleged assault, stating that they were carrying out their livelihood activities when the incident occurred. The episode has triggered widespread resentment and concern among the fishing community across the islands.
Expressing solidarity with the fishermen, Mr. TSG Bhasker condemned the alleged assault on innocent fishermen and assured them that he would take up the matter with the higher authorities to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry.
He emphasized that while national security agencies play a vital role in safeguarding the country’s maritime borders, the dignity, safety, and rights of local fishermen must also be protected.
Mr. TSG Bhasker assured the fishing community that every possible effort would be made to ensure that justice is delivered and that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
