Sri Vijaya Puram, June 24:In an effort to strengthen road safety awareness and bring transport services closer to rural communities, the Transport Department, A&N Administration has been conducting regular outreach programme especially in the rural areas. In this context, latest outreach programme on Integrated Road Safety Awareness and Transport Service Outreach Programme was organised yesterday at the Panchayat Hall, Wimberlygunj. The programme witnessed an encouraging response, with a large number of residents from the Gram Panchayats of Kanyapuram, Wimberlygunj, and Stewartgunj participating in the event.
During the programme, officials interacted with the public and highlighted the importance of safe and responsible driving practices, adherence to traffic rules, and the need to maintain valid driving and vehicle-related documents. Participants were sensitized about how compliance with traffic regulations plays a vital role in reducing road accidents and ensuring safer roads for all.
This initiative enabled people to avail various transport services without the need to visit offices by traveling long distances. During the camp, 56 Learner’s Licences were issued, while several vehicle-related services, including vehicle fitness inspections, transfer of ownership, and renewal of driving licences, were successfully facilitated.
The enthusiastic participation of the public reflected the effectiveness of the initiative and the growing awareness of road safety among local communities. By combining awareness activities with accessible administration, the Transport Department reaffirmed its commitment to citizen-centric governance and safer roads across the islands.
Encouraged by the positive response, the Administration intends to conduct similar outreach programmes in other rural and remote areas of the archipelago in the coming months.
