Diglipur, June 17: Heavy rainfall and high tide today caused havoc at Diglipur Island, resulting in flood like situation in many villages. According reports rain caused maximum damages at Kishori Nagar, Madyam Gram and Parangara villages while R K Gram, D B Gram and V S Palli villages are also affected.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha the Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur today said that five people (three male and two female) were rescued by police personnel from flooded areas of Madhyam Gram while flooding of ATR road at Parangara village had disrupted traffic in the Afternoon hours.
“Presently water has receded, rain has also stopped and situation is totally under control. There is a heavy rainfall warning for tomorrow but we are fully prepared,” Dr. Vivek Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur added.
He said due to uprooting of trees, the power line from Kalpong to Diglipur was snapped and one electric pole was also damaged.
“We could not get backup power from Mayabunder because in that route too power lines snapped due to tree fall. Presently there is a blackout in a large area of Diglipur but we are confident to resume power supply by tomorrow afternoon,” the Assistant Commissioner added.
According to reports the AC with senior officials of North Andaman today visited all the rain hit areas.
