
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 18: As part of the observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, is conducting a series of awareness programmes across the Islands under the campaign “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan” to promote a drug-free society and create awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Awareness programmes were organized at Forest Training Institute (Wimberlygunj), Balika Niketan (Attam Pahad), and Community Hall (Shadipur), STS unit (SVP), Saraswati Coaching Institute, Love Children Home, (Indria Nagar) covering students, staff members, children, and sanitary workers. Participants were sensitized on ill effects of alcohol and drug abuse, addiction prevention, and the importance of adopting a healthy and disciplined lifestyle. A drawing competition was also conducted for children at Balika Niketan and Love children home to reinforce the message creatively.
The sessions were conducted by resource persons from Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), Police Department (Narcotics), Directorate of Industries, and Directorate of Social Welfare. The speakers highlighted the need for collective action in preventing substance abuse, creating awareness about its harmful effects, and promoting healthy lifestyle choices. Participants were encouraged to contribute towards building a healthier and drug-free society. The Directorate of Social Welfare continues its efforts to mobilize community participation and strengthen awareness under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
