Sri Vijaya Puram, June 14: The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T), A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Department of Environment & Forests and Dakshin Foundation (ANET), North Wandoor, successfully organized the Island Bird Walk at Kalatang and Island Mangrove Walk at Shoal Bay- 19 on 13th June as part of the Tourism Fairs/Festivals/Events Calendar 2026-27.
The programmes aimed to promote eco-tourism, create awareness about the rich biodiversity of the Islands and encourage public participation in nature-based activities. A total of 25 participants took part in the Island Bird Walk, while around 50 participants participated in the Island Mangrove Walk. During the events, participants were sensitized about the importance of bird conservation, mangrove ecosystems, biodiversity protection and sustainable tourism practices.
The programmes received an overwhelming response from the local community, and the Pradhans of Gram Panchayat Mannarghat and Shoal Bay extended excellent support by mobilizing a large number of participants. The active cooperation of the Department of Environment & Forests, Dakshin Foundation (ANET), local Panchayats, and enthusiastic participants contributed significantly to the smooth and successful conduct of both events, which effectively promoted environmental awareness and conservation among the public.
