Sri Vijaya Puram, June 14: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the coming days.
According to the forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning are likely at isolated places across the Islands from June 15 to June 20. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during periods of adverse weather and follow safety advisories issued by the authorities.
The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the North Andaman Sea and adjoining Andaman Coast until June 16 due to squally weather conditions with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph, occasionally gusting up to 60 kmph. A swell surge alert has also been issued, with wave activity expected to increase along the coast, posing risks to small boats and marine operations.
Farmers have been urged to take appropriate precautions to protect crops and agricultural activities from possible impacts of thunderstorms and strong winds.
The Administration has appealed to the public to remain vigilant, monitor official weather updates, and take necessary precautions until conditions improve.
