Sri Vijaya Puram, June 12: Gram Panchayat Ramnagar Pradhan Mr. Mithun Das recently met the Director of Education at Vijaya Puram and urged the Education Department to introduce an English Medium Arts Stream at Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Kalighat from the upcoming academic session. During the meeting, the Pradhan highlighted the difficulties faced by students from Ramnagar, Nabagram and Kalighat Panchayats who complete their schooling in English-medium institutions but do not have the option of pursuing higher secondary education in the Arts stream in English medium within the area.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily today Mr. Mithun Das said that he has pointed out that due to the absence of an English Medium Arts Stream at GSSS Kalighat, many students are compelled to travel long distances every day to attend schools located far from their villages. He said the situation places an additional financial burden on families and causes physical strain and mental stress to students.
According to the Pradhan, the Director of Education gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised and assured him that the matter would be examined and necessary steps would be taken.
The Pradhan informed that he had earlier submitted a formal representation to the Director of Education on June 11 requesting the introduction of the English Medium Arts Stream at GSSS Kalighat. In the letter, he highlighted that there is currently no provision for an English Medium Arts Stream in the school and cited the example of a similar arrangement that was introduced at GSSS Kishorinagar through adjustment of existing resources.
Mr. Mithun Das stated that there has been a growing demand from students and parents of Ramnagar, Nabagram and Kalighat Panchayats for the introduction of the stream. He said that opening the Arts stream in English medium at GSSS Kalighat would ensure better access to higher secondary education for rural students and reduce the need for daily long-distance travel.
The representation also noted that the proposal has received support from School Management Committees, parents, students and local residents. The Pradhan expressed hope that the Education Department would take a positive decision in the interest of students and the educational development of the region.
