Sri Vijaya Puram, June 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), through the State Control Room, has issued a weather warning for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the next seven days, cautioning residents about heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across various parts of the Islands.
According to the forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 50–60 kmph and lightning are likely at one or two places on June 12. Thereafter, thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are expected to occur at isolated locations across the Islands from June 13 to June 17. Fishermen Advised Not to Venture into Sea.
The IMD has also issued a fishermen warning, stating that squally weather with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, is likely over the Andaman and Nicobar coast from June 12 to June 15. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period due to rough conditions.
Advisory for Farmers
Farmers have also been advised to stay alert as heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds may affect agricultural activities. Necessary precautions should be taken to protect standing crops, harvested produce and farm infrastructure from adverse weather conditions.
The authorities have urged residents, fishermen and farmers to closely monitor official weather updates and follow advisories issued by the administration and the India Meteorological Department to ensure safety during the forecast period.
