Port Blair, June 12: The No Objection Certificate issued by Andaman and Nicobar Command for setting ambitious Yacht Marina Project at Historic Viper Island of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been cancelled by Defence Ministry, the Member of Parliament of A & N Islands said today.
Addressing a press conference at Port Blair, the Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray today said that he had raised objections over the project on security grounds as the Viper Island is situated very close to Navy and Coast Guard Habour and other crucial Defence establishments.
“I have received a letter from the Defence Minister of India, who has clearly mentioned in this letter that the NOC given for the project has been cancelled by Defence Ministry,” Ray told media person quoting letter of the Defence Minister of India.
He further demanded for NARCO test of all the officers of the Administration so that the real facts come in front of the people.
The Member of Parliament also raised strong objections over the issue of demolishing a well, built during British Occupation in the Island, from which freedom fighters of India used to take water for their daily needs.
“The well from which brave freedom fighters of India used to take water during their Kalapani Punishment and a walkway, built during British era have been already bulldozed by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. I condemn this act and demand a CBI inquiry in this entire issue,” the Member of Parliament added.
The Andaman Administration had planned the ambition project of 50 berth Yacht Marina, which was supposed to be developed by Indo-Malaysian company for Tourists including foreigners.
