Port Blair, June 12: The Bharatiya Janta Party today demanded cancellation of registration of Athletic, Boxing and Hockey Associations for violation of Society Act.
In a letter addressed to the Registrar of Joint stock companies, Mr. Deepak Jha, the State General Secretary of BJP today said that the Hockey Andaman Nicobar, AN State Athletic Association and AN Boxing Association are registered under societies Act and are bound to follow the provisions of Societies Act. Bye laws of all these associations indicate that they are formed to promote respective sports across these Islands and to give exposure to players at national level after different level of competitions in the Islands.
He said that recently all these three associations have fielded players of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala as representative of Andaman Nicobar contingent in violation of their own byelaw. Moreover they did not conduct any tournament in these islands for the benefit of the players of these islands.
“Apart from the above it has come to know that the present office bearers have captured the posts without any election. The present office bearers do not fulfil the criteria to become a member of these associations, but have captured the posts through coercion. This needs to be investigated and serious action is to be initiated for failing to comply with the provisions of Societies Act. These associations have failed to disclose the details of their General Body members which raise suspicion over the existence of these associations. The Department of (S&YA) had already cancelled the recognition of these associations and have also written to respective National Federations to cancel their affiliations. In view of the above facts, I on behalf of the party would like to request you to cancel the registration of all these associations for violating various provisions of societies Act, and to ensure that other State level sports bodies does not repeat the same mistake in future,” Jha said in his letter.
He said that such action will be morale booster to the budding young sportspersons of these islands who had to suffer due to the highhanded attitude of such sports bodies.
