Sri Vijaya Puram, May 26: Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has urged the A&N Administration to take immediate steps for the construction of a flyover from Dairy Farm Junction to Garacharma in order to address the growing traffic congestion in the area.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Bhasker stated that the stretch from Dairy Farm Junction to Garacharma has become one of the busiest and most congested routes in the region. The road serves as an important corridor for daily commuters, school children, commercial vehicles, and emergency services.
He pointed out that due to the rapid increase in the number of vehicles, heavy traffic congestion has become a daily occurrence, causing serious inconvenience, delays, and safety concerns for the public.
Expressing concern over emergency medical services, Mr. Bhasker highlighted that the District Hospital at Garacharma is located along this route, and ambulances often face severe delays in reaching the hospital during emergencies because of traffic jams. He further noted that the presence of road dividers leaves no space for overtaking, worsening the situation during critical medical emergencies.
The ANTCC leader also identified unauthorized parking of two-wheelers and four-wheelers on both sides of the road as one of the major causes of persistent traffic congestion. According to him, this practice significantly reduces available road space, increases the risk of accidents, and poses a serious threat to public safety.
Mr. Bhasker suggested that the Administration should also explore the construction of additional flyovers in congested areas and identify alternate routes connecting Dairy Farm, Bathubasti, and Garacharma to reduce traffic pressure.
He further stated that the stretch from Dollygunj Junction to Bathubasti remains heavily congested due to hawkers occupying both sides of the road. He demanded removal of encroachments and widening of roads to improve traffic movement.
Additionally, Mr. Bhasker urged the Administration to coordinate with the Airport Authority of India for providing additional land near the airport area to facilitate road widening, which would significantly help in easing congestion.
In his appeal, Mr. Bhasker requested the Administration to treat the construction of the proposed flyover from Dairy Farm Junction to Garacharma as a priority project and take necessary measures to provide long-term relief to the public from worsening traffic congestion.
