Sri Vijaya Puram, May 26: Mr. Angshuman Roy, State Youth President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has urged the A&N Administration and the Directorate of Health Services to take immediate steps to address the serious shortage of wheelchairs at GB Pant Hospital.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration and the Director of Health Services, Mr. Roy stated that patients and their attendants are facing immense hardship due to the inadequate availability of wheelchairs in the hospital since morning.
He pointed out that elderly, disabled and critically ill patients are experiencing severe difficulties because of the non-availability of basic patient support facilities. According to the representation, attendants and family members are being forced to manage patients without proper assistance, reflecting the poor condition of healthcare arrangements in the Islands’ main referral hospital.
Mr. Roy further stated that despite GB Pant Hospital being the primary government hospital in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, essential facilities required for patient care are not sufficiently available for public use. He emphasized the need for immediate intervention to improve patient welfare and strengthen basic hospital infrastructure.
Through the representation, he requested the Administration to urgently procure and make available sufficient wheelchairs in the hospital for the convenience and welfare of patients.
