
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 20: The Sports Authority of India (SAI), STC Sri Vijaya Puram, with the support of the A&N Administration and in coordination with the Rowing Federation of India and Andaman & Nicobar Rowing Association, successfully organized the inaugural function of the “Coastal Rowing National Coaching Camp – 2026” on 20th May 2026 at the picturesque Corbyn’s Cove Beach, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Aditya Sangotra, Director (Sports & Education), A&N Administration, in the presence of officials from SAI, A&N Administration and representatives of the Andaman Nicobar Rowing Association, Coaches, Athletes, and sports enthusiasts.
The function commenced with a bouquet presentation to the Chief Guest by Ms. Amrita Minj, International Athlete and SAI Athlete also a member of the National Camp, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Mr. V Ranjith Kumar Assistant Director (Sports/PE), Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs.
Mr. Mohammed Sadique, Centre In-charge, SAI STC Sri Vijaya Puram presented a brief overview of the Coastal Rowing National Coaching Camp highlighting that this is the first-ever Coastal Rowing National Coaching Camp being organized in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The camp has brought together national-level rowers and coaches from various parts of the country for intensive training and preparation ahead for the forthcoming Asian Beach Sprint Championship scheduled to be held at Pattaya, Thailand from 01st June 2026 to 08th June 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen India’s performance in coastal rowing and provide high-quality exposure and training to athletes in a unique sea-based environment.
The Chief Guest Mr. Aditya Sangotra, Director (Sports & Education), A&N Administration, appreciated the efforts of SAI STC Sri Vijaya Puram, the Rowing Federation of India, and the A&N Administration for promoting Coastal Rowing and creating opportunities for athletes in the Islands. He emphasized the importance of developing sporting excellence among youth and encouraged the athletes to perform with dedication and discipline at the international level. Mr. G. Bhaskar, President, Andaman & Nicobar Rowing Association, also graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts made towards promoting coastal rowing in the Islands.
A special interaction session of the National Campers with the Chief Guest, accompanied by all dignitaries, was also conducted, providing motivation and encouragement to the participating athletes. The inaugural ceremony further featured the symbolic Oars Handing over Ceremony by the Chief Guest, followed by a live demonstration of a Coastal Rowing Competition at Corbyn’s Cove Beach, showcasing the skills and preparedness of the national campers.
The programme also included a group photograph session with the national rowers, coaches, and dignitaries, marking the occasion as a memorable milestone for sports development in the Islands. The event concluded successfully with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Mohammed Sadique, Centre In-charge, SAI STC Sri Vijaya Puram, expressing gratitude to the A&N Administration, Rowing Federation of India, Andaman & Nicobar Rowing Association, officials, athletes, and all stakeholders for their valuable support and cooperation in making the inaugural programme and the National Coaching Camp a grand success.
