
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 19: The Office of the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-1, Kolkata stationed at Port Blair, organized a comprehensive outreach programme titled “Prarambh 2026” on 19th May at the Conference Hall of AAPDA Bhawan, Sri Vijaya Puram. The programme was aimed to sensitize local stakeholders on the newly enacted Income Tax Act, 2025 and the accompanying Income Tax Rules, 2026.
The event was chaired by Mr. Manish Kanojia, IRS, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-1, Kolkata. It witnessed active participation from a diverse segment of local stakeholders, including business owners, tax professionals, and representatives from various trading communities.
In his inaugural address, Principal Commissioner, Mr. Manish Kanojia, briefly highlighted the salient features of the new Income Tax Act, 2025. He emphasized how the modern legislation fundamentally differs from the legacy Income Tax Act, 1961, pointing toward increased simplification, enhanced taxpayer services and a digitized framework tailored to contemporary economic realities.
Following the inaugural address, a detailed Power Point Presentation, mapping out the major statutory transitions, was delivered by Mr. Arnab Sarkar, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Sri Vijaya Puram. The presentation provided deep technical insights into procedural updates, compliance modifications and key legal structural shifts under the new Income Tax Act, 2025 and Income Tax Rules, 2026.
The event also featured an interactive session where the Principal Commissioner directly engaged with the distinguished guests, addressing their queries and collecting feedback regarding local tax administration. The outreach programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Tapas Ganguly, Income Tax Officer (TDS), Sri Vijaya Puram.
