Port Blair, June 09: The Coast Guard, A & N Region conducted the ANC Badminton Championship 2013-14 June 3-7, 2013 in four divisions viz Men’s Single, Men’s Double, Women Single and Mixed Double. The tournament was open to all service personnel of A&N Command and about 78 participants fought for the title in the tournament, which was held in the Coast Guard Indoor Complex (CGISC), Haddo and coordinated by Coast Guard Air Enclave (Port Blair). The finals of the championship were conducted on Friday.
The Commander, Coast Guard, Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM was the chief guest for the finals and the prize distribution ceremony. Senior officers and service personnel and their families from all the components of the unified A&N Command witnessed the finals.
Surg Lt Jebin won the Men’s Single category while SK Jaiswal, LMA of Indian Navy was runner up. Lt Cdr V Agarwal and SK Jaiwal, LMA took away the Men’s Double category title and Surg Lt Jebin and Ajant Kumar, LPTI were runners up. In the women’s Single category, Lt T Jyoti of INS Jarawa was the winner and Asst Comdt Akshi of 745 Sqn CG was runner up. Lt Prashant Peyyala and Lt T Jyoti have won the mixed Double category and Lt Col Varghese and Asst Comdt Akshi were runners up.
Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General VSR Murthy congratulated the winners of the championship and participants for the spirit of jointmanship and synergy. He also complimented the coordinating unit for organizing the championship flawlessly, a CG release says.
