
Sri Vijaya Puram, April 17: A delegation comprising Zilla Parishad members from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands met Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, at his official residence in New Delhi today at around 11:00 AM, raising key concerns related to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) and rural development.
As per details available here the delegation included Mr. Subrata Basu, Mr. Tapas Roy, Mr. Alagar Swami, and Mr. Ashok Hawlader, all Zilla Parishad members of North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad. During the meeting, the representatives apprised the Minister of various challenges faced by PRI bodies, particularly in North and Middle Andaman.
According to sources, the delegation submitted a memorandum highlighting issues such as inadequate fund allocation, delay in developmental works, and the need for greater financial support for rural infrastructure. They also emphasized the importance of strengthening local governance institutions to ensure effective implementation of development schemes.
The representatives urged the Minister to reconsider the allocation of funds and prioritize pending development works, including school support, road repairs, and livelihood opportunities for unemployed youth in rural areas.
Mr. Chouhan reportedly gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured that the concerns raised would be examined. He emphasized the Government’s commitment to strengthening rural development and empowering local bodies.
