Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 25: The PG Department of Bengali, JNRM, Sri Vijay Puram, organized a book release function on 25th March 2026 at 11:30 a.m. in the Lecture Gallery of the institution. The book, authored by Prof. Purnendukanti Das, is entitled Andamaner Itikatha.
The Chief Guest of the program was Dr. Pearl Devdas, Principal, JNRM. In her speech, she encouraged everyone to draw energy and inspiration from Prof. Das, who, at the age of 86, continues to pursue his passion for writing. She also suggested that the faculty and students should come up with a Bengali magazine by the next academic year.
Mr. Sanjib Kumar Roy, Chief Editor, Andaman Sheekha and the Guest of Honour, saluted the zeal of the author and urged students to explore the e-archives of the Andaman administration and cultivate the habit of constructive writing. He also spoke about the importance of the Bengali language in countries like America and Germany, where radio programs are broadcast in Bengali.
The program was attended by students and faculty members of the Bengali and other Department. It began with a welcome speech by Dr. Rasbehari Banerjee, Assistant Professor (Bengali) and Coordinator of the program, who also briefly introduced the book. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Vyasdev Ghosh, Resource Person, Dept. of Bengali.
