Car Nicobar, Mar. 24: World Tuberculosis (TB) Day was observed in the Conference Hall of BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar, today with the objective of raising awareness about tuberculosis, its prevention, early detection, and treatment. Inaugurating the programme, Shri Amit Kale, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District appreciated the efforts of the District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO), NTEP staff, and field-level workers for their dedicated role in TB detection and management. He also encouraged greater community participation through the Nikshay Mitra initiative, urging individuals and organizations to come forward in supporting TB patients.
During the programme, certificates were awarded to Tamaloo and Tee Top villages in recognition of their efforts towards achieving TB-Free Village status. Certificates were also distributed to village headmen under the TB Mukt Village initiative.
Appreciation certificates were presented to the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs of Kinyuka, Big Lapathy, and Arong for their excellent performance. Students from ITI Arong, Car Nicobar, who emerged as winners in the essay competition conducted as part of World TB Day 2026, were also felicitated.
Dr. Anwar Moosa, District TB Officer and Dr. Johnson Sameer, Medical Superintendent (i/c), BJR Hospital, also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, Dr. Partha Mondal (MO, Ayurveda) welcomed the gathering while the programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Silvester Titus, Medical Officer.
The event served as a strong reminder that tuberculosis is preventable and curable, and with sustained efforts, early detection, and community participation, the goal of a TB-free Nicobar can be achieved. “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Bharat, Powered by Janbhagidari.
