Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 24: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), in collaboration with Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), successfully conducted two field demonstrations on livestock feeding and fodder management at V K Pur and R K Pur Gram Panchayat.
At the field of Mr. Hari Pada in V K Pur, a demonstration focused on feeding balanced nutritious ration to livestock was conducted, educating farmers on optimal feed formulations for improved health and productivity. At the field of Mrs. Subhadra Roy in R K Pur, a practical demonstration on silage making was held, where participants learned the complete process using ingredients such as curd, jaggery, rock salt, and chelated mineral mix for preparing 25 kg of minutely chopped Hybrid Napier fodder grass. Inputs and reading materials were also supplied to support adoption of these practices.
Earlier, on 21 February 2026, two additional demonstrations were organised at Harminder Bay and Netaji Nagar in the fields of Mr. Lamson and Mr. Goutham Roy, respectively, on deworming and vaccination in poultry, and integrated fish pond with duck rearing. These sessions highlighted scientific methods for disease prevention, resource recycling, and dual-purpose farming to enhance income and sustainability.
All demonstrations received active participation from local farmers, who appreciated the practical approach and hands-on learning. The Department remains committed to continuing such field-level training and demonstrations under ATMA to promote balanced feeding, fodder security, integrated farming, and improved livestock productivity across the islands.
