Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 24: TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of ANTCC, has expressed deep concern over the recent killing of a Hindu boy in Bangladesh and the growing influx of Bangladeshi nationals into the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, warning that the issue could have serious implications for internal security and communal harmony.
In a formal communication addressed to the Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bhasker highlighted that incidents of targeted violence against minorities in neighboring countries naturally create fear and anxiety, especially when such developments coincide with unchecked illegal migration into strategically sensitive regions like the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
“The tragic killing of a Hindu minor in Bangladesh is deeply disturbing. While the incident occurred outside India, its impact cannot be viewed in isolation, particularly in light of the increasing number of undocumented immigrants entering the islands,” Mr. Bhasker stated.
He further noted that in recent years, there has been a noticeable rise in criminal activities across the islands, with several cases reportedly involving individuals whose identities and legal status remain questionable. The absence of robust identification, verification, and timely deportation mechanisms, he warned, could pose a serious threat to law and order and undermine the long-standing peaceful coexistence of communities in the islands.
Mr. Bhasker urged the Andaman & Nicobar Police to intensify surveillance, strengthen intelligence gathering, and take swift action to identify illegal immigrants and initiate lawful deportation procedures in accordance with existing laws.
“Failure to address this issue decisively may lead to social unrest and disturb communal harmony in the future. Preventive action today is essential to safeguard peace tomorrow,” he emphasized.
Reaffirming his confidence in the police administration, Mr. Bhasker expressed hope that the authorities would take prompt and effective measures in the interest of public safety, national security, and communal harmony.
