Wimberlygunj, Nov. 24: The Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, organised an awareness program on the Gram Swaraj Yatra at the Wimberlygunj Community Hall on Sunday. The event was held under the chairmanship of Mr. O. Basir, President, RGPRS (ANTCC).
The programme witnessed the presence of several senior Congress leaders, including Mr. Rangalal Halder, President of ANTCC; Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee, ANTCC; Ms. Zubaida Begum, President of Mahila Congress; Mr. John Robert Babu, District President; and Mr. Mohd. Zubair, President of City Congress. Prominent leaders and residents of South Andaman also participated in large numbers.
Speakers at the event emphasised the vision of Gram Swaraj inspired by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, highlighting the importance of strengthening grassroots democracy, empowering Panchayati Raj Institutions, and ensuring active citizen participation in local governance. Discussions also focused on rural development, community engagement, and promoting social justice at the village level. Leaders jointly appealed to citizens to participate actively in the S.I.R. process and uphold democratic values.
Mr. O. Basir expressed heartfelt gratitude to Sarpanch Abdul Jaleel (Lara) and Mr. D. Vinod for their significant contributions to the programme. He also thanked senior leaders for their guidance and continued support.
