
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 16: The Department of Tourism, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Department of Environment & Forests, MY Bharat, organized the Island Trekking Festival to Mt. Manipur, one of the most scenic and historically significant trekking routes in South Andaman. The event aims to promote eco-adventure tourism, encourage local youth participation, and foster a deeper appreciation of the Islands’ natural beauty and historical heritage. The Zilla Parishad Member, Bambooflat, Ms. VK Mariyam Bibi, flagged off the trekking expedition from Chunna Bhatta.
Ms. P.K. Sandhya Prasad (Range Officer, Wildlife Range, Manipur Parvat National Park) welcomed all the participants who joined the trek. Officials from the Department of Environment & Forests guided participants. along the trail, sharing insights into the area’s biodiversity and ecological significance. During the trek, forest staff Ram Vikas (Forest Guard) and Shekhar (Forester) guided the participants in bird watching and shared information about the flora and fauna found along the route. The trek concluded near the Rest House of Manipur Parvat National Park.
Comprehensive safety and first aid arrangements were put in place in coordination with the allied Departments like Health Department, Transport, DCF Wildlife, Haddo, A&N Police & Forests, PRIs from Gram Panchayat Hopetown to ensure a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.
