
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 16: Saras Mela, currently underway at the ITF Ground, drew large crowds for its second day with a series of cultural activities and vibrant commerce. The main stage captivated visitors with a rich tapestry of cultural performances. Highlights included a powerful tribal dance by the Self-Help Group (SHG) from Nancowry, a traditional Nicobari folk dance and song, a graceful performance by the Karen community, and a soulful bhajan, “Devaram Thiruvasakam,” by the Kurundham NGO’s Manivasagar Thapavan group.
Musical entertainment kept the energy high, with engaging performances by the Melody Troupe and Unity Orchestra. Meanwhile, commerce flourished at the stalls. Exhibits from Ladakh and Tamil Nadu SHGs proved to be major attractions, witnessing significant sales as visitors eagerly purchased unique crafts and products. The Ladakh stall alone reported sales of Rs. 12,000 (approx). It was also reported that the overall sales for the mela on the first day closed at Rs.161401 lakhs.
