The national song Vande Mataram, written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875 during the sacred occasion of Akshaya Navami, first appeared in his novel Anandamath in serialized form and was later published as a standalone book in 1882. The song, invoking the Motherland as a symbol of strength, divinity, and unity, played a historic role in awakening India’s national consciousness and the struggle for independence.
The commemorative event at CRC Andaman & Nicobar Islands began with a collective rendition of Vande Mataram in the presence of Mrs. Sumithamol, Director, CRC –A&N Islands, along with all staff members, Divyangjan clients, caregivers, parents, volunteers, and interns. The song was sung in unison while saluting the Tricolor, evoking a deep sense of patriotism, respect, and unity among all participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Sumitha highlighted the enduring relevance of Vande Mataram in strengthening national pride and collective identity. The program reflected the spirit of inclusivity and dedication that the song embodies.
CRC Andaman & Nicobar Islands has also planned a series of activities throughout the month to commemorate this historic milestone as part of the year-long celebration (from 7 November 2025 to 7 November 2026) initiated by the Ministry of Culture. These activities aim to promote awareness of India’s rich cultural heritage and the timeless message of Vande Mataram.
The event concluded with renewed patriotic zeal and a pledge to uphold the values of unity, devotion, and service to the nation.
