Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 21: The Andaman & Nicobar Police solemnly observed National Police Commemoration Day on October 21, paying tribute to the brave Police personnel across the country who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
A Commemoration Day Parade was held at the Parade Ground, Police Lines, where Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, along with other senior officers of the A&N Police, participated in the wreath-laying ceremony. The event was also attended by the families of the martyrs, as well as retired Deputy Superintendents of Police, who came together to honour the memory of the fallen heroes.
During the ceremony, dignitaries paid homage to the sacrifices made by the Police personnel and emphasized the vital role played by the police in maintaining law and order. Special recognition was given to the selfless dedication and courage of those who have made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
October 21 is commemorated as Police Commemoration Day in memory of the ten valiant Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were martyred in an ambush by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh in 1959. Since then, this day is observed annually to honour not only those bravehearts but also all Police personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty across the country.
To further commemorate their legacy, a National Police Memorial – “Shaheed Vedi” – has been established at Hot Springs, Ladakh. Every year, representatives from Police forces across India gather there to pay homage and uphold the legacy of courage and sacrifice.
The observance of Police Commemoration Day serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women in uniform, and their unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
