Port Blair, Apr 25: Vice Admiral Anurag G Thapliyal, AVSM, Director General of Indian Coast Guard will be visiting A&N islands on his maiden visit from 26-29 April 13, after taking reins of the Indian Coast Guard on 28 Feb 13. During his visit, Director General will assess the operational preparedness of the Coast Guard assets in the Region and would take stock of the various measures undertaken to strengthen Coastal Security in the Islands. He will also be visiting the Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 9 at Diglipur and Coast Guard Station at Hut Bay for reviewing the progress of various ongoing projects.
Admiral Thapliyal will be calling on the Hon’ble Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM to discuss various issues pertaining to the overall security of the Islands. Both ongoing and proposed projects pertaining to Coast Guard expansion and other Coastal Security measures are also expected to come up for discussions. The Director General is also scheduled to meet the Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command Air Marshal PK Roy, AVSM, VM, VSM, to discuss various operational issues.
Admiral Anurag G Thapliyal, an alumnus of Naval Academy was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1977 and is a specialist in Navigation & Aircraft Direction (ND). The Flag Officer has held various operational and staff appointment during his 36 years of illustrious career. He has commanded the ASW patrol vessel Ajay, missile corvette Khukri, stealth frigate Tabar and the indigenous destroyer Mysore. He also held the prestigious appointment of Chief of Staff of Eastern Naval Command, Fleet Operations Officer, Eastern Fleet at Vishakhapatnam and ACNS (Information Warfare & Operations) at IHQ MoD (Navy). After promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral, he held the position of Commandant, Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala from Sep 09 to Jan 12 and thereafter was Chief of Personnel of Indian Navy.
He is also an alumnus of the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, USA and DSSC, Wellington and possesses two Masters degrees in Physics and Defence Studies. The Flag Officer is a recipient of Ati Vishist Seva Medal.
Mrs Rachna Thapliyal, President Tatrakshika will also be accompanying the Admiral during his visit. The first lady of the Coast Guard will be interacting with Coast Guard families and will review the welfare measures adopted by CGWWA (A&N), both at Port Blair & various outlying units.
