Austin, Mayabunder, Sept. 28: Nine persons were injured, 05 of them critically, when a pvt. bus owned by Anand Transport overturned at Kajutikrey, Austin 2, Mayabunder on Saturday night.
According to information, the mishap took place when the bus, which carried around 34 passengers, turned turtle at Kajutikrey, Austin 2, Mayabunder yesterday at around 08:00 p.m.
On being informed by locals and passengers, fire personnel and police officials immediately reached the spot and rescued the passengers. The injured people including the bus conductor were rushed to RP Hospital, Mayabunder. Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police, N & M Andaman was reportedly present at the mishap site and the rescue operation was carried out under her supervision.
Five passengers who were stated to be critical were reportedly airlifted to GB Pant Hospital today for further treatment.
The bus had commenced its journey from Sri Vijaya Puram towards Diglipur in the morning hours/forenoon. And according to passengers on board the Anand bus, they cited no conceivable reasons for the accident; the road by which the accident occurred is reportedly not bad, nor the road is curvy where the mishap took place. The passengers further said that the bus driver was reportedly driving the bus under the influence of alchol. They also alleged that the bus conductor and the driver didn’t reportedly help the passengers get out of the tumbled bus; they were busy on their own safety.
After one roll, the bus got a support of an electric post which acted as a prop, or else the bus would have fallen in the gorge, the locals said.
Rash driving and over speeding might be the possible reasons behind the accident, others opined.
