Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 22:A team of 34 students from the Department of History, M.G. Government College, Mayabunder, has embarked on a unique internship program at Harinagar Gram Panchayat to document the 50-year history of the region’s development journey.
The initiative is being led by Dr. P.K. Mandal, senior faculty member and in-charge of internships for the Department of History at MGGC Mayabunder.
The program began with a warm welcome and felicitation ceremony, where the students presented bouquets to key representatives of the local administration. Among those present were Mr. Manojit Halder, Pradhan of Harinagar; Mr. Dilip Kumar Das, PSM; Mrs. Mamta Biswas, Up-Pradhan of GP Harinagar; Mrs. Sabitri Burman, PRI Member; Mr. Deban Roy, SI Billyground; and Mr. Suresh Panday, Patwari of Harinagar.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Mandal outlined the parameters of the internship, stressing the importance of tracing historical milestones and documenting the developmental efforts undertaken by Harinagar Gram Panchayat over the past five decades.
The officials and PRI members assured full support to the students in their research, underlining the importance of such academic initiatives in strengthening community engagement.
This internship not only provides students with hands-on experience in field-based historical research but also helps them connect with the socio-economic transformations that have shaped Harinagar over time. The findings of the study are expected to offer valuable insights into the Panchayat’s role in driving progress and improving livelihoods over the years.
