Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 21: A Legal Awareness Programme was held yesterday at Crescent Senior Secondary School, Wimberly Gunj, South Andaman, under the joint initiative of the Andaman & Nicobar State Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority, and PRAYAS JAC.
The programme sought to address pressing concerns affecting society and the younger generation, such as sexual offences at the workplace, the dangers of drug abuse, responsible and limited use of mobile phones, suicide prevention, free legal aid for children, and constitutional rights.
The occasion was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Mr. Rashid Alam, Ld. Registrar, Circuit Bench at Port Blair, Calcutta High Court & Member Secretary, A&N SLSA; Mr. Sudhir Kumar, Hon’ble District Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, A&N Islands; and Mr. Samrat Roy, Secretary, DLSA, A&N Islands. Adding strength to the initiative, representatives of PRAYAS JAC, Ms. Maria Sheela, Regional Head (Delhi) and Mr. K. Vijay Kumar, Advisor (Delhi), also joined the programme.
In his address, Mr. Rashid Alam reflected on the opportunities and risks that come with mobile technology, encouraging students to make thoughtful and positive use of it. Mr. Sudhir Kumar stressed the importance of protecting the girl child, sensitized students about sexual harassment at workplaces, and urged collective efforts to combat drug addiction. Mr. Samrat Roy enlightened the gathering on Constitutional rights of children and the welfare schemes of Legal Services Authorities designed to safeguard them.
The event drew keen participation from the students and staff of Crescent Senior Secondary School, who actively engaged with the messages shared. The insights delivered by the dignitaries left a lasting impression, fostering awareness and responsibility among the young learners.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mrs. N. Bhavani Vijayakala, Principal, Crescent Senior Secondary School, who expressed deep gratitude to the esteemed guests for their presence and valuable guidance.
