Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 21: In response to the ongoing inconvenience faced by the public due to the closure of Chatham Bridge for car, bus and auto rickshaw, the Chairman of Campaign Committee- ANTCC Mr. TSG Bhasker has formally appealed to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to provide immediate transport assistance to passengers.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Bhasker, highlighted the severe hardships being experienced by daily commuters, particularly senior citizens, patients, and women with children who are currently forced to walk over 500 metres to access Chatham Jetty.
“The public is facing immense difficulty, especially in this rainy weather. It is the responsibility of the administration to intervene and provide relief,” Mr. Bhasker stated.
Mr. Bhasker has proposed the deployment of at least 10 battery-operated auto-rickshaws to facilitate passenger movement to and from the jetty.
He further urged the Administration to explore the possibility of permitting normal auto-rickshaws to operate on the route.
“This small but vital intervention will not only ease public distress but also showcase the Administration’s commitment to citizen welfare during infrastructure disruptions,” Bhasker added.
The ANTCC awaits prompt action from the authorities and stands ready to support any initiative that alleviates the challenges currently faced by passengers especially of Bambooflat Region.
