
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 19: Andaman Law College is going to start IGNOU Study Centre to offer law related Certificate, Diploma, Degree and PG Courses shortly as announced by the Regional Director IGNOU Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob. He participated as a Chief Guest at an induction-cum-orientation program held at Andaman Law College on Friday. This centre will help the students and the general public to pursue their education through distance mode.
Principal ALC Dr P.V.N. Agendra Sarma, while presiding over the meeting said that pursuing an online/distance/correspondence/proximate course along with regular study is now allowed under New Education Policy. Hence, regular students can also pursue IGNOU certifications to improve their CVs for add on credentials to enhance their employability he underlined. He further said that the Law College will conduct Legal Awareness Programs in IGNOU adopted villages under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan in the days to come.
Participating as a guest of honour, Local Bar Association Secretary Mr. Rakesh Pal Gobind congratulated the students who got admitted on merit. He urged them to value the course and asked them to improve their soft – skills, life-skills along with academics to become good advocates. Joint Director, Mera Yuva Bharat (formerly NYK) Mr Sukharanjan Biswas in his address urged the budding lawyers to inculcate socially responsible traits to make Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Registrar of the High Court, Calcutta Circuit Bench, Port Blair, Mr. Rashid Alam added significance to the event with his presence. During his routine visit to Free Legal Aid Services Clinic at ALC, he obliged to address the students. He urged the students to commit to the noble ideals of the legal profession and added that advocacy is a noble profession. Assistant Professor in English Mrs Nisha Sikdar, convener of the event proposed a vote of thanks.
