Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 20: The Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has called upon the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor to intervene and issue strict directives prohibiting gambling games and non-vegetarian food stalls at puja pandals during the forthcoming Ganesh Puja and Durga Puja celebrations across the islands.
In a representation submitted to the Lieutenant Governor, State President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Mr. Rakeshwar Lall, highlighted that gambling activities such as “Throw Glass,” “Lucky 7,” and “Pick Up Scoring Number for Gifts” have been repeatedly organized at pandals in areas like Bengali Club, Junglighat, and elsewhere. These, he pointed out, not only fall under the definition of gambling but also cause harmful social consequences while being in violation of the spirit of law.
The organisation further expressed concern over the increasing trend of permitting non-vegetarian food stalls within and immediately outside puja pandals. “Such practices are deeply disrespectful to the sanctity of Durga Puja and Ganesh Puja, and hurt the sentiments of devotees,” the representation stated.
The Hindu Rashtra Shakti has requested the Administration to take urgent steps to ensure:
• No gambling activities of any kind are allowed in puja pandals.
• No permissions are granted for non-vegetarian food stalls inside or directly outside pandal premises.
“These measures are essential to preserve the religious sanctity of the festivals, uphold traditional values, and maintain public order,” said Mr Lall.
The organisation has urged the Administration to act promptly so that the upcoming festive season can be observed in an atmosphere of devotion, discipline, and harmony.
