Sri Vijaya Puram, July 27: During his official visit to Swaraj Dweep on 26.07.2025, Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Secretary (Rural Development)/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman accompanied by PRI members and officials of A & N Administration inaugurated several public infrastructure facilities and undertook field inspections of key development sites.
During the visit the Secretary (RD)/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman inaugurated a Tourist Shed with parking space at the Radha Nagar Trekking Point, aimed at enhancing visitor amenities in the island’s tourism circuit. A Community Toilet near Kali Mandir at Shyam Nagar-03 was also inaugurated to improve sanitation facilities in the locality.
The Deputy Commissioner was formally received at the Gram Panchayat Community Hall by the Pradhan, Shyam Nagar and the Pradhan, Govind Nagar, where a newly constructed Kitchen Shed was inaugurated to support local events and gatherings. A Plantation Drive was also launched in the vicinity, focusing on roadside beautification and environmental conservation.
As part of solid waste management efforts, dustbins were distributed to local residents as part of efforts to encourage solid waste management at the household level during a brief function held at the community hall. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the community’s proactive involvement and emphasized the importance of cleanliness and sustainability.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner held discussions with PRI members, government officials, and the general public to review the progress of developmental works. Field visits were undertaken to the Krishna Nagar 6.5 km road, the Solid Waste Management (SWM) cluster and the iconic Radha Nagar Blue Flag Beach to assess the current conditions, ongoing initiatives and future plans to enhance civic amenities, connectivity and environmental management in these locations.
