Sri Vijaya Puram, Jun 01: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has written to the Deputy Commissioner, Middle & North Andaman, urging immediate action to set-apart a piece of land for the construction of a pre-fabricated toilet and refreshment block at Police Check Post No.15, located between Kadamtala and Kausalya Nagar on the Andaman Trunk Road (ATR).
This location serves as a key halt point for commuters traveling from North & Middle Andaman to South Andaman and Sri Vijayapuram HQ, especially those waiting for the early morning convoy. However, the lack of required basic toilet and water facilities has caused considerable inconvenience to passengers, bus staff and tourists. Currently, there is only one bathroom each for men and women, both of which are in poor condition. Hence, the Member of Parliament has proposed the set apart of around 500 square meters of land adjacent to the check post for building a new pre-fabricated block with toilets and refreshment facilities. The project can be funded through the Union Territory budget or, if necessary, through MPLADS funds.
Therefore, he requested the district administration to urgently confirm the land availability, following all required procedures including forest clearance if needed, so that funding approval can be processed without delay. He emphasized that this is a long-pending and repeated demand of the people and must be treated as a priority.
