Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 11: The Directorate of Social Welfare, under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ (NMBA) and as part of the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), organized a comprehensive awareness program on ‘Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse’ yesterday at Ferrargunj, Gram Panchayat, South Andaman in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Health Department, Police Department, and Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), South Andaman. The initiative aimed to educate the local population on the harmful effects of substance abuse and to promote a united effort in building a healthy, drug-free society.
Accordingly, Department of Social Welfare officials discussed the psychological, social, and emotional impact of addiction and emphasized the significance of early intervention and support systems. The Health Department representatives elaborated on the health-related consequences of substance abuse and encouraged the use of available medical and counseling services. Police Department officials addressed the legal aspects of drug and alcohol abuse, highlighted the role of law enforcement in prevention, and informed attendees about support services like the 112 helpline while the IRCA personnel shared details about rehabilitation options, recovery programs, and community-based approaches to fighting addiction.
The program concluded with a community interaction session. The Social Welfare Department will continue such programs during the month of April-May.
