Diglipur, Mar 31: It was indeed a Pig which caused the tragic accident at Diglipur on Friday morning claims an Eye Witness of the fatal accident, who was sitting just next to the driver.
Mr. Ranjit Minj R/o Radha Nagar have lived the nightmare and is lucky enough to survive the deadly accident. Ranjit was airlifted to Port Blair and is presently admitted in G B Pant Hospital.
According to him truck was going towards Durgapur from Shyam Nagar and was loaded with pulverized dust and there were seventeen labourers on the truck.
Talking exclusively to Andaman Sheekha, Ranjit said that he was sitting next to the driver Vijay and saw that a pig came suddenly in front of the truck. The driver in order to save the pig turned the steering wheel hard and lost control over the truck. The truck turned turtle immediately killing eight people and injuring nine others.
Ranjit became unconscious for sometime.
“When he got back consciousness, I saw that the driver of the truck was standing on road safely without a single scratch on his body. It appeared that the driver was planning to run away from the spot but due to the crowd, gathered there, he couldn’t do so,” Ranjit added.
Meanwhile, the Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has expressed his grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in a tragic road accident at Diglipur in which eight people died and two sustained critical injuries. Seven other people got minor injuries in the accident.
The Lt Governor from his camp office at New Delhi has conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured persons. He announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 1.00/- lakh from LG’s Relief Fund to the next of kins of each deceased person.
The Lt Governor has also announced Rs 50,000/- to the two critically injured persons in addition to the Administration bearing the full cost of medical treatment of all the injured persons. The seriously injured persons were immediately airlifted to G. B. Pant Hospital where they are undergoing medical treatment. Seven persons with minor injuries are undergoing medical treatment at Radhanagar Primary Health Centre.
