Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 22:Many roads in A & N Islands are in damaged state and over the last 5 years no actions have been taken to address the problems. The MPMr. Bishnu Pada Ray, after being elected for the 4th term, launched an aggressive campaign to ensure that road repair works get utmost importance. As a result, the NH road of Middle Andaman region which was in utterly bad condition is now being re-laid afresh under the supervision of NHIDCL.
Similarly, the MP has been continuously voicing for construction of new roads in unreached areas. In line with this, Mr. Ray has recently written a letter to Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways and has urged him to expediting principal approval for sanction of Rs 156 crores under Central Road Fund (CRF) corpus for the Union Territory.
The requisite estimates of new roads and repair of roads has already been submitted by APWD to the Ministry for obtaining sanction of CR funds.
In the said letter Mr. Ray has mentioned that road network serves as a vital lifeline for residents, connecting remote regions and supporting socio-economic activities. However, the UT administration is unable to undertake the essential repair and improvement works solely with its limited resources.
The accord of principal approval of Rs 156 crores will greatly help timely development and maintenance of critical road infrastructure in the Islands, Mr. Ray further added.
