Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 04: In a commendable effort to promote sports among youth and guide them away from negative influences, the District Administration, South Andaman under the guidance of Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman) in collaboration with the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) organized the DC Cup Chess Tournament 2024. Held exclusively for young players of Swaraj Dweep at Hotel Dolphin Resort, this first-of-its-kind event provided Under-11 and Under-19 boys and girls, a unique platform to showcase their chess skills and sportsmanship.
Shri Firoz Alam, SDPO of Swaraj Dweep, graced the event as chief guest, making the ceremonial first move on the top board to inaugurate the tournament against Ms Jagtap Kalyani Rajendra, Director (Fisheries), A & N Administration. In his address, Shri Alam encouraged the players to actively engage in sports, underscoring its role in building resilience, discipline, and teamwork, qualities that contribute to character and personal growth.
Altogether 65 players participated in the event with great enthusiasm in which the following players emerged as the winners and were awarded with trophies, medals and certificates.
